1973

  • Gordon Brown Sr. starts the Southeast San Diego Junior Golf Foundation .

  • Southeast San Diego Junior Golf Foundation juniors participate in the San Diego County Junior Golf Program.

  • Horace Brown became the first African American to place in the top five in his age division.

1974

  • Southeast San Diego Golf juniors join the Paramount Golf Club. Avis Brown wins the prestigious Junior World.

1975

  • 25 children have joined and playing golf. Southeast San Diego Golf juniors finish number one in their age division in the San Diego County Junior Golf Program.

1976-1991

  • Gordon Brown Sr. continues working with area juniors, and supporting the program without any outside financial assistance. Gordon's students excel in golf:

  • Two CIF Champions; San Diego County Junior Golf Player-of-the-Year; Competitor in the US Women's Open.

1992-1996

  • Gordon Sr., and Horace Brown resurrect the junior golf program under a new foundation, called San Diego Junior Golf Foundation, Inc.

 

1997

  • The foundation opens its doors at the present location and holds its first Annual Golf Tournament to raise funds.

 

1998-1999

  • The program grows to 75 children and sets up an after school and computer learning center program.

 

2000

  • SDJGF networks with Vital Links and Vital Tutorial programs to further help community kids meet their educational goals.

  • SDJGF student wins prestigious Western States Golf Association Junior Golf Championship.

 

2001

  • Over 100 children have gone through the SDJGF programs. SDJGF networks with Children, Youth and Family network to assist children and parents with their Social, Physical, Environmental and Educational needs.

2002

  • SDJGF automates program: Builds web site and MIS database.

  • Implements the Community Partnership Program, this includes a partnership with the National City Boys and Girls Club.

  • A management consultant firm is hired to process administration.

  • Three Jr. golfers travel the US playing in golf tournaments.

  • Fundraising is the second highest in brief history.

  • The Gordon Brown Sr. story is shown on TV channel 8 by reporter Larry Himel.

2003
  • SDJGF introduces Golf for Women program.

  • SDJGF top Jr. Golfer receives scholarship to University of California at Berkeley

  • SDJGF shown on TV channel 8 and featured in the San Diego Tribune.

   
2004
  • Horace Brown qualifies the PGA Tour

   
2005
  • Horace Brown joins the Fiji PGA Tour
   

2006

  • Gordon Brown becomes the first recipient of the African American Golfers Hall of Fame.

 

   
2007
  • Changed name to San Diego Junior Golf Foundation and joined Reading-Right Foundation.
